Enhanced Page Selector for ProcessWire Page Fields

Introduction to Views

Please note that some of the screenshots used in this section are outdated since a different UI was introduced in Visual Page Selector version 005. These screenshots will be updated eventually.

To use Visual Page Selector, edit a page whose template has the page field where you specified VisualPageSelector* as the Input field type. Depending on the view you selected under the setting Saved Pages View, you will see either a Thumbs or List view.

If it is the first time you are using the page field, there will be no pages added to it yet. Instead, you will see a message displayed that nothing has yet been added to the page field. If you specified that you will be using Thumbs view in Saved Pages View but did not specify the name(s) of a valid image field in Image Field Settings, you will see an error that the page field needs to be properly set up before you can use it.

These two views, can each be used with either of the two modal views depending on your needs. Here are some suggestions:

Thumbs view page edit + Thumbs view modal

Thumbs view in the Inputfield combined with Thumbs view in the page selector is best if you will be using a 'one-page-per-image' strategy.

Thumbs view page edit + Lister view modal

Thumbs view in the Inputfield combined with Lister view in the page selector is best if you will be using a 'one-page-per-image' strategy but also need to see extra information about your selectable pages before adding them to your page field.

List view page edit + Thumbs view modal

List view in the Inputfield combined with Thumbs view in the page selector is best if you will be using a 'one-page-per-image' strategy but are only interested in seeing the image thumbnail at the selection stage as opposed to the page edit phase.

List view page edit + Lister view modal

List view in the Inputfield combined with Lister view in the page selector is best if you will be using Visual Page Selector purely as an enhanced page field in a very granular fashion, where you need to see as much detail as possbile about your selectable pages before adding them to your page field.

In the next topics, we will look at how to search, filter and add or remove pages to/from the page field using Visual Page Selector.
